Mr. O’Hare will present an insider’s look at the state of the agency, including its expanding capital program and upcoming consultant opportunities. The briefing will highlight PRT's multi-modal network--spanning rail, busway, incline, and BRT systems--and outline the strategic agenda to modernize regional infrastructure while tackling the State of Good Repair backlog.

Attendees will gain insights into completed milestones like the CBD Concrete Plinth Restoration and Mt. Washington Tunnel Rail Replacement. We'll also learn about major active projects--like the University Line BRT, Panhandle Bridge Rehabilitation, and Mt. Lebanon Tunnel Rail Replacement--which set the stage for future improvements.

To execute this growing pipeline, PRT relies heavily on Construction Management (CM) and Construction Inspection (CI) consultant teams operating as a seamless extension of agency staff. Mr. O'Hare will discuss upcoming contracting opportunities and high-level proposal evaluation considerations for prospective firm partners.

Greg O’Hare, P.E.
Chief Engineer, PRT

Greg O’Hare leads PRT's Engineering Department in the strategic planning, programming, and construction of the Pittsburgh region’s transit infrastructure. Having joined PRT in 2009, he assumed the role of Chief Engineer in September 2022. Since then, he has been responsible for a vast network of assets, including limited-access busways, light rail systems, bridges, tunnels, and facility buildings. With nearly 30 years of experience in the industry, Mr. O’Hare has developed a deep expertise in the design, construction, and forensic analysis of diverse infrastructure projects ranging from locks and dams to radio towers and railways.

His professional foundation was built on leadership and service as a U.S. Army Engineer Officer on active duty. Today, he remains a key figure in the transit industry, having served on the American Public Transportation Association (APTA) Rail Standards Policy and Planning Committee and as the Committee Chair for the APTA Fixed Structures Inspection and Maintenance Standards Committee. Additionally, he sits on the Board of Directors for the Engineers’ Society of Western Pennsylvania. A graduate of the Virginia Military Institute with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, Mr. O’Hare is a Registered Professional Engineer in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
